Why Recreational

Our mission is to provide a quality youth soccer program that educates and develops physical and teamwork skills for families primarily within the Mukilteo School District boundaries.

Established in 1969, MYSC serves more than 1,000 players on over 100 teams from ages 3 to 19. We offer a program for all abilities with a welcoming, community-first culture.

  • Emphasis on fun and participation with a minor element of competition.
  • Gender-specific teams in most ages; parents serve as coaches, managers, and referees.
  • Every player gets at least 50 percent playing time each game.
  • Games are played within Snohomish County.

Seasons at a Glance

Fall Soccer: Registration opens May 1. Players who register in May receive a $15 early-bird discount and are guaranteed a spot on their previous fall team. After teams are formed, your coach will share practice details in late summer. Micro teams often start a little later than Mod and Youth teams. Games are scheduled on Saturdays or Sundays by age group. The season runs 7–10 weeks, and first games are tentatively the weekend after Labor Day.

Spring Soccer: Registration opens in February for 4U through 16U. The season is six games starting mid-April. Most games are on Saturdays; Sundays may be used if fields are limited. Some teams practice 0–2 times per week; the focus is extra touches and fun. 15U and 16U require a minimum number of teams; full refunds are issued if the league cannot field those ages. There are no reschedules for spring games.

Team Assignment and Practices

  • Requests: You may list a buddy or coach request during registration. We do our best within defined roster sizes.
  • Placement: Players are placed on teams based on birth year. Returning players who played up the previous year are grandfathered; register by birth year and our registrar will manually move the player to the returning team.
  • Coach contact: Fall coaches contact assigned players by July 15. Spring coaches contact by March 15.
  • Practices: Each coach selects practice days, times, and locations. Practices use Mukilteo School District fields based on availability.

Uniforms and Gear

  • Micro 4U–7U: jersey provided.
  • 8U–19U: full MYSC kit (jersey, shorts, socks) provided in fall.
  • Spring uniforms: most players reuse fall kit. Limited purchase options in early April (TBD): jersey $10, shorts $10, socks $5. If not purchasing, 8U–16U may wear any green t-shirt.
  • Required for all: shin guards and athletic cleats at practices and games. Bring a labelled water bottle and, when possible, a soccer ball.

Fees and deadlines: See current dates, fees, and openings on our Get Started page. Financial assistance is available; the application is online. Registration is completed online; payment is required for player placement. Questions: mysc@mysc.org or registrar@mysc.org.

Micro 4U–7U

The emphasis is totally on fun and participation. Co-ed intramural within MYSC. Parents serve as coaches and referees. 3v3 games, no goalkeepers; small fields; equal playing time; teams of ~5–7 to maximize ball time.

Spring: Practices may begin early April. Six games on consecutive Saturdays starting mid-April. Volunteer coach sets practice schedule. All games at Explorer Middle School, typically 8:30, 9:30, or 10:30 AM. Includes player jersey, fields, coaches’ equipment, and admin fees.

Fall: Practices may begin late August. Six consecutive Saturday games starting the Saturday after Labor Day at Explorer Middle School (similar morning times). Includes player jersey, fields, coaches’ equipment, administration, and insurance fees.

Fun and participation first, with a minor element of competition. Gender-specific teams. Teams and fields remain small and scale gradually with age. MYSC forms and operates teams; parents coach/manage/referee. Every player gets at least 50% playing time barring discipline issues. MYSC organizes games versus neighboring clubs and, at times, other MYSC teams. No standings kept.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Mukilteo FC Select?

Mukilteo FC Select is the elite, competitive pathway of Mukilteo Youth Soccer Club. It’s open to players in Snohomish County and surrounding areas, with higher-level coaching and competition. Teams compete in the Washington Premier League (WPL) against other select programs.

What age groups?

9U–19U by birth year. For the 2024/2025 cycle we aim to field teams from 2016 (U9) through 2006 (U19), depending on interest and coach availability.

Do players have to attend all tryout days?

No. However, if a player felt off on day one, attending day two can help. Coaches evaluate over the tryout window and may benefit from a second look.

How much does Mukilteo FC Select cost?

We target a total annual cost of $1,000–$1,300. Monthly payment plans are available. We work to keep Select accessible while covering training, uniforms, fields, referees, tournaments, and admin.

What is included with my fees?
  • Home & away jerseys, two pairs of game shorts, two pairs of game socks
  • Two training jerseys (worn at practices)
  • Warm-up training set
  • League registrations (fall and, by age, winter/spring)
  • Three team tournament entries (typical)
  • Practice fields on Mukilteo SD sites (lights in winter), game fields & referee fees
  • Player eligibility card, team equipment (bench, canopy, first aid, balls, cones)
  • Club administration & compliance (coach background checks, insurance, staff eligibility)
Can a player try out even if they are unsure about Select?

Yes. Tryouts are free. Players can experience the environment before committing. If you decline an offer, please notify the coach quickly so they can fill the spot.

Can a player “play up” and try out for an older team?

Yes. We prefer players try out for their birth year, but play-up requests are considered. Note your intent during registration and inform coaches at check-in.

Do you play year-round, and can my player do other sports?

Typical club activity runs mid-June/early July through mid-December. Teams that enter State Cup train/play into February (or longer by division). Many teams add a spring league. We support multi-sport athletes—if your team plays year-round, we ask for at least one practice per week during conflicts.

How many days per week does a team practice?

Minimum of two practices per week; some teams offer optional additional training (up to three sessions).

How far do we travel for games?

Generally within Western Washington: north to Bellingham, south to Tacoma, east to Issaquah/Monroe, west to Bremerton. Regular-season games rarely go east of the mountains (possible for older ages). State Cup matches can be anywhere in the state.
