Parents
Welcome
Welcome to MYSC. This page gives parents a quick path to everything needed for the season: fees, uniforms, schedules, field locations, weather updates, club policies, refunds, volunteering, and how we communicate.
Quick start checklist
- Review fees and payment timing.
- Order the uniform and confirm sizes early.
- Find your team schedule and add it to your calendar.
- Locate your home fields and plan parking time.
- Join the team communication channels so you do not miss updates.
First week at a glance
- Coach introduction and team roster shared.
- Practice start date confirmed; typical practice length is 60–90 minutes.
- Bring water, shin guards, and the correct ball size; label personal gear.
- Watch the weather section for any practice or match changes.
Birth-year placement
As shown in the chart below, team assignments are based on a player’s birth year. If a player “played up” last autumn and wishes to stay with that team, they may do so if the coach agrees it is in the player’s best interest. New play-up requests are reviewed by the MYSC Executive Board with coach input and are granted based on skill and available roster spots.
Players are not allowed to play down (for example, a child born in 2011 cannot play on a 2012 team) without an approved medical play-down request. Athletes who previously played up may return to their correct age group during registration if they choose.
Spring soccer: players do not “age up” until after Spring Soccer.

Locations
Field rules
- If there is an emergency on the field, call 911 and notify the club president as soon as it is safe.
- No alcohol or smoking is allowed at any facility.
- No pets are allowed on the field except those needed for assistance (service pets only). People with pets are required to leave the field and may only return without the pet.
- Park in designated parking areas only. Do not block the driveway or drive onto the field.
- After each game or practice, each team must check its sideline for left items and rubbish. Garbage and recycling containers should be easily located at each venue.
- No propane or electric heaters are allowed at any venue. People with heaters will be required to leave the field and may only return without the heater.
- Both teams’ technical areas must be located on the same sideline between the halfway line and the 18-yard line (extended). Spectators must be on the opposite sideline (2 yards behind). Spectators, players, and team staff are prohibited between the 18-yard line (extended) down to the end line. No one is allowed on or near the end line from corner to corner.
- If a facility’s rules (often stadiums) require teams on opposite sides, spectators must be in the bleachers and/or behind the fence surrounding the field.
- For 7v7 fields, teams must be on the same sideline, spectators on the opposite sideline. If space is inadequate between the halfway line and the penalty area, use the “goalie box” line as the spectator limit. Spectators, club staff, and players are not allowed on or near the goal line.
- The use of drones for any reason is strictly prohibited.

Weather
Game-day weather and field status. Weather can change quickly. Use the guidance below for how status is decided and how updates are sent on match days and training days.
How decisions are made
- Field closures: Decisions may come from the city/school district, the league, or club field staff. If a site is closed, no training or matches are permitted.
- Coach/Ref discretion: If fields are open but conditions are deteriorating, coaches and referees may pause or end a session or match for safety.
- Lightning: Play stops immediately if lightning is seen or thunder is heard. Everyone must clear the field to safe shelter. Wait at least 30 minutes after the last thunder before resuming.
How you will be notified
- Team messages: Your manager/coach will post updates to the team channel first. Ensure you are in the communication group and have notifications enabled.
- League updates: Some divisions post live status on the league schedule; check your schedule link for cancellations or time changes.
- Club announcements: Club-wide closures may be emailed or posted on the website and social channels.
Typical scenarios
- Light rain: Sessions and matches usually proceed. Bring layers and a dry change for after.
- Heavy rain / waterlogged fields: Training or matches may be cancelled to protect the surface.
- Air quality / smoke: Activities may be limited or cancelled based on public health guidance.
- Lightning or severe weather: Immediate suspension; follow the 30-minute rule before any return.
What to bring for wet or cold days
- Base layer top and leggings (neutral colours) under the kit.
- Waterproof jacket for before/after play; a dry towel and warm change for after.
- Labelled water bottle; extra socks in a zip bag.
